This assignment is about a letter that Beneatha sends to Asagai. She is explaining to Asagai that her and George are not right for eachother. She also explains her true feelings for Asagai, however he is going back to Nigeria
A personal letter for Joseph Asagai.
Joseph, I have to tell you so much. George and I just had a major fight, and I realized that he and I are not compatible. I just decided that I was going to break up with him. He doesn’t accept me for my African background and what I want to be in life. All he cares about is that I am eye candy and will only be a pretty face but no thoughts. As you know, I want to be a doctor and make something of myself. He just would not understand that I do not want to be a housewife that cooks and cleans all day.
However, I found someone that I could be happy with. Joseph I realized that you are someone that I would be interested in pursuing. You accept me for my African background, as you are African yourself. You embrace my natural self, and not someone that is fake, and you like my natural kinky hair. I really enjoy spending time with you and you are someone that I can see myself with. :)
I do realize that you are going back to Nigeria, which is a scary thing for me to think that eventually I will lose someone as special as you. I figured out that if you would like I can follow you to Africa and we can have a serious relationship and go with that.
Sincerely, Beneatha
