Invictus by William ernest Henley
After reading all of the poems that were the choices for this project. I figured that this one would be the best one for me. Since I'm not good at remembering anything, I thought it would be best to pick a short poem. I thought about the meaning of this poem, it was hard to figure out. From what I got out of this poem is that we can not let stupid stuff stop us from being who we are. My past might of been rocky, but I made it out alive, which is what is important.
The assignment was to memorize a poem and recite it to the class.
The object was to have an insight to the poem, and explain what it means to you.
Skills Mastered:
- Public Speaking
- Memorization skills
The poem that I had to recite was:
Invictus
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
